If you’re anything like us, you would have been swooning over the promotional photos and video of the Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports earlier this year.
It promised to make the already brilliant standard Africa Twin even better by adding a larger tank, improved suspension, more ground clearance and better all-round comfort. And wow, did it look gorgeous in those special edition colours the Honda artists cooked up.
Test ride
As soon as the Adventure Sports hit our local bike showroom, we took it for a test ride. We couldn’t help be impressed by the big bike’s agile low speed handling and its wonderfully linear-feeling engine that delivered power throughout the rev range.
We did have a couple of complaints. The increased ground clearance meant our feet were not planted on the floor even with the low seat option. This led to some wobbly moments during a U-turn on a narrow, steep road.
We also experienced awful wind buffeting from the non-adjustable stock screen when travelling at 70mph down a blustery duel carriageway.
An impressive machine
Despite this, we were hugely impressed with the bike and the only thing standing in the way of the salesman’s commission cheque was the £12,599 price tag.
Despite being cheaper than much of the competition in the big adventure bike class, our budgets couldn’t stretch to spending over £13,000 on a motorcycle once we’d factored in the luggage options we would need.
But now, we are seriously rethinking that decision after we discovered a small number of dealers are selling brand new Africa Twin Adventure Sports for around £10,000 or less.
Cracking savings
The best deal we’ve found is at John Banks Honda Motorcycles in Bury which is offering a price of £9,943. And the Vertu Honda dealerships in Nottingham and Grantham are asking for £9,999 for an Adventure Sport or £10,999 for the DCT version.
These prices creep up once you factor in registration fees and any interest on finance you might pay, but they still represent cracking overall savings and make a new bike cheaper than most second hand Adventure Sports for sale.
So if you were waiting for deals and discounts on the Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports, or if you are thinking about buying a new adventure bike, now could be the time to book a test ride.
